COMPARISON A FASTER WAY TO achieve?

By Patrick Ekong

On today's article I want to divert a bit from the usual talk of politics. I want to use this particular article to open another vista to my writing.

Today's Article is on COMPARISON

Merriam Webster Dictionary defined COMPARISON as "the act of looking at things,  people etc. to see how they are similar or different".

Vividly looking at the above definition of comparison we can deduce that comparison as a word or act have had a place in our everyday life.
Comparison in our lives is inevitable just as breathing, living, death etc.
We can't simply live without comparing ourselves, things, et cetera to see the similarities or differences.

There are several situations parents compare their children to someone else's children,  spouse compare spouse to others, teachers, and a whole lot more...
The issue of comparison seems a never ending issue.

People have lost their lives by committing suicide, others are sunk into depression and low self esteem etc all because they are being compared to others. Comparison has driven a whole lot of youths nuts as they are constantly faced with how to make it as their peers.
Comparison is a two edged sword, by this I mean that comparison can breathe both negative and positive impacts in our lives depending on how we choose to make it work.
Comparison can only work positively in our lives when we compare ourselves to ourselves.

Betty Jamie Chung wrote:

"Comparison with oneself brings improvement, comparison with others brings discontent"

In Betty's word, comparison becomes destructive and brings about lack of satisfaction the moment we start comparing ourselves to others.

Nido Qubein wrote:

“Winners compare their achievements with their goals. "

Nido caution us to always compare our achievements with our goals by so doing comparison becomes goal oriented and it is aimed at bettering our selves rather destroying us.

Comparing ourselves to others is an "act of violence against ourselves as no one in the entire world can do a better job of being ourselves than ourselves." Why then do we compare ourselves with others?

Anonymous writer wrote:

"Happiness is found when we stop comparing ourselves  to other people." Please don’t compare yourself with anyone else in this world. If you do, you are insulting yourself.

In all of the above, it can only be concluded that comparison is a self aimed thing which we can use in bettering ourselves rather than constantly trying to be who we are not.

Comparing ourselves with others brings about unhealthy competition, unhealthy rivalry, self doubt, lack of self satisfaction and a lot of more harms to us.

I'll advise that we compare our past to our present not comparing our failure with other's  success.
I'll advise we compare our goals with our achievements
And
I'll advise we compare who we are to who we want to become.
Only then we can grow., not by comparing ourselves with others not remembering that we have different path to follow, different role to play, different goals to achieve, different meaning to make out of life.

STOP MEASURING UP WITH OTHERS IT SUCKS AND DRAINS.

It is true that when love can no longer sustain the marriage, commitment,  and sense of responsibility does. This was Elma's concern. Though things were never what she expected, especially after having an affair with her personal assistant, she felt she could rekindle the love and bring her home. Shutting the door of the penthouse behind Mark her boyfriend, Elma warned him never to call again, not when she was trying to fix her home and get back with her husband. After Mark drove off, Elma took a step backward from where she was, fell on the bed and sobbed profusely. It was hard for her to see him leave. In the past six months of knowing Mark, he made her feel loved again and provided her a shoulder to cry on. He made her forget the horrors George her husband made her pass through in the last three years.  Elma left the penthouse that n...
