NOT BY HOW LONG WE HAVE DATED....

"This is not happening..... sixth invitation card from friends just this year alone?... Nne turned over the invitation card her friend Ekom gave her that evening at the close of work.

She sat down, looking towards one direction as countless thoughts flow in her mind.

"... How can I possibly date him for 3 years without words of marriage? Tony must tell me my position in this relationship...

Emem, my girlfriend dated for just three months and the next thing I got was a marriage invitation.... Nne lamented, sitting on the edge of the divan that lie close to the medium size refrigerator in the sitting room.

The sitting room is semi furnished with rough carpet on the floor, a glass centre table with remote control on it and a flower vest.

Picture of Tony and Nne on his last birthday in a big frame lay close to the mirror near where a 24 inches plasma TV hang. On the wall is a big wall clock hanging adjacent to Tony's family picture. Two executive chairs, each facing the other with the centre table separating both. The room depict a typical bachelor's room.

"....God why? God why me?? ...... Nne cried her heart out with tears rolling down her chin.

She didn't know what to do anymore. She has tried everything possible to convince her man that she too can make a good wife.

From one house chore to another every morning, behaving like a newly wedded bride who was on a mission to show her man that he put his money on a better value,  Nne did all these to give Tony reasons to take her as a wife.

For the past three years, her man has never talked to her about settling down let alone to bring her name up in such discussions.

Nne was tired of gracing other's marriages while her relationship was a funfair of s*x and house chores.

To make things even worse, Nne out of frustration had started spying on Tony since he acted as

if she was a side chick.

On a Friday night, Tony returned from work late, intoxicated with alcohol, staggered into the sitting room, fell on the sofa and immediately zoom off.

Nne in the process of  undressing Tony found his phone, removed it from his pocket and dropped the phone on the center table. Just then the phone rang, a call from an unknown number.

Nne, with the suspicious mind she had about Tony, picked the call and behold a lady without waiting to know who was on this side of the call asked if Tony has gotten home safely...

Nne couldn't believe her ears. She ended the call, tried to contained with her anger but she couldn't. She tried waking up Tony to explain who called him but Tony was in alcoholic paradise.

She sat on the other side of the bed, thinking about the call and the caller. Maybe she was the reason why Tony never talked to her about marriage, she thought... This and many more throw her in to more confusion as she tried to unravel the puzzle behind the caller short message.

The next morning, Nne blatantly refused to run her routine house chores. The only thing she was waiting for was when the alcohol was going release Tony from the fool's paradise he was.

She was bent on finding out her position in the relationship she has done everything and anything to establish her presence.

When Tony finally woke, Nne bombarded him with questions..

"Tony... what am I to you after three years?...Three good years I have stayed with you, clean your house and washed your clothes.... Nne bewailed, looking so rejected like a house wife who's mother-in-law has refused to eat her food.

"...Not only that,  I also go against my friend's advice, packed my things and live with you.... she continued, this time with much strength in her voice perhaps in a bit to force words out of Tony.

"...what have I done to you to deserve this???... at this point she couldn't control herself anymore. Tears roll down her eyes.

With these words Nne sanked to the chair behind her and sobbed bitterly.

Tony look dejected and pale with these words which sting like a 🐝 bee bite.

He would have loved to marry Nne but he no longer enjoy the relationship. He felt Nne was the first and last but he recently met a very beautiful lady that he was ready  to settle down with.

The issue now was how to get ride of Nne which he found it very difficult to, most especially with fear of what she might do...

Tony was at a crossroad of no return. He recalled promising Nne of the future but now that future was only a mere dreams that he never wanted to be part of....

NOTE:

● We have been dating for years  do not guarantee marriage.

● His/ her parents know me do not assure marriage.

● Don't expect too much in any relationship. It may not end as you expected.

● Relationship is not a do or die affair. Learn to know when to walk away.

DON'T LEAVE WHEN IT IS TOO LATE.

The story . Udauk was too weak to continue with the evening chores around the house because of her pregnancy. She bent over the kitchen cabinet in search of a tuber of yam she was to prepare before her husband returned from work. At the point of stretching her hands to reach the tuber of yam under the cabin, she felt a sharp pain down her abdomen. Her left lap was swollen from the beating she got the previous night from the monster's husband. She was still short of three months from her due month. That's when she was to put to birth. The shape pain was accompanied by a loud scream. She dropped the knife she had with her and tried to settle on a table-size stool lying close to the gas cylinder in the kitchen, but she couldn't. She fell and started screaming, reached out to her phone, and dialed her husband. Mr. Sam had branched  Madam G's Native Kitchen to settle for a while before heading home as his habit demands. He was busy at his usual joint with a bottle of chill
Social Media: Are we swallowed by it? It is alarming yet no longer news the rate of social media usage since the turn of the millennium. Social Media has become a tool in nearly every 9/ 10 persons we meet everyday of our lives. In fact it is estimated that youth particularly engaged in social Media taking 8/9 hours a day out of the 24hrs. Since the advent of social media in the early part of the millennium, the rate people get involve in these wonderful platforms keep increasing on a daily basis. To some youth and some fraction of older people, social media is like oxygen. They can't stay a moment without. A lady once said that she can't stay without visiting her Facebook page in a day. JOURNEY OF NO RETURN.

The story. The atmosphere was heavy, that of apprehension and uncertainty as Iquo stared at the open space leading into the compound. It was around 10:33pm that evening.  A time in Ikot Ekim community when every household had put off their lamps and retired to bed. The nocturnal sound of night creatures made the night even more looming and intense.  Nsek has never stayed out so late no matter how fierce any argument with his wife was. In their 24 years of marriage, no matter the nature of the fights Iquo has had with her husband he will always come back home to rest in his hut.  As time ticked away, she stared at the open compound, struggling to fend off the call of nature with the hope her husband would appear at the far end of the compound.  Using her hand to support her chin, she wondered how things could change so fast. Her husband Nsek was no longer the man she married. He picked fights at every little argument and would end the night with curses, accusing Iquo of turning his on
